The Periyar River originates in the western ghats and flows down to the Arabian sea north of Cochin. This is one of the important rivers with many tributaries joining it at various spots along the way as it meanders towards the sea. Traditionally it has been the lifeline for many communities along its route. Though the way of life has changed over centuries and with the advent of roads and bridges the importance of river transport has waned. However the river still provides livelihood for the many communities that still live on its shores, fishing the waters, cultivating the banks and other enterprises. We offer an insight into this quiet and scenic part of Kerala, exploring its shore and seeing the various activities from the water. You have the option of going on a kayak or by boat. For those interested in a bit of activity and adventure the Kayaking experience will be a memorable experience. The kayaks are sit-on kayaks and we have both twin and single kayaks. For the boat trip we have a motorised traditional wooden boat that is small enough to traverse the narrow canals for an authentic local experience.
